We’ll Miss McQueen: The Last Visionary Standing
February 11, 2010Lifestyles of the Reckless & Famous
Just heard that Alexander McQueen died today, by committing suicide. I immediately felt sad, hurt and sorrow for his pain. I began to even tear up a bit as I texted a friend who became equally as devastated. In a time where it seems everything has gone to shit, McQueen was all you’ve probably or will hear about in the coming days: visionary, artiste, different, extraodinary. When I first became introduced to fashion as an art form and the beauty of photography at my own accord and curiosity, McQueen was one of the first people who grabbed me. He was so fantastical and outlandish. He quickly became one of my favorites and I dreamed of wearing his designs. Too many good and amazingly talented people in art are leaving us too soon. I can’t even begin to fathom how awful and low he felt that he considered taking his own life would be the only solution.
Today I shed some tears for McQueen as his death is pretty much the equivalent of Michael Jackson’s passing in his field of work. McQueen, you were a true original and was there for me when I felt alone in high school. I turned to photography and the art of fashion and your designs, your creativity, the fun you had for fashion was inspirational. So many of us, who couldn’t even afford your clothes, shoes and handbags, loved your work from a distance. I’m so sorry about this and I hope you’re with your mother and your good friend Isabella Blow now.
Rest in Peace, McQueen. You won’t be a forgotten. Thanks for the designs.
In your honor: “Fashion” by David Bowie
